Way back when (it seems like forever ago and I guess in reality, it was) I heard a song from my then favorite singer, Mickey Mangun. I liked it enough that I tucked it away in my memory of favs but not enough that I listened to it every day. Several years back I came to a crossroad, or maybe it was more of a detour road, in my life and I had some decisions to make. In prayer one day, I was reminded of this song. I pulled up the lyrics, began reading and memories started to flood my mind while tears streamed down my face. I decided then that I had to stay the road I was on. I had no idea what was around the curve, wasn’t sure how long until it ended, but this I knew, this road had to be traveled. There wasn’t another option available that made sense. It had lead some mighty awesome people to their journeys end and for me, well, there had already been some curves and I knew more would most likely come but my mind, it’s made up, I’m along for the wind.
Long and Winding Road – 🎶🎼🎵🎶🎼🎵🎶🎼🎵
by Johnny Cook
Verse 1
When I made my start for heaven, I could only find one way.
The road that led me through the mountains, and through the valleys.
The road not many folks could take.
Since I started traveling on my journey, I’ve covered many, many miles behind me.
Miles of sun and rain, miles of smiles and pain.
The roads been rough but I again would choose the same.
Chorus
Long and winding road keep on leading me.
Up ahead I see a sign that points me, straight ahead, to my victory.
I know I must be traveling right for I remember passing Calvary.
And although it’s dusty, and it’s old, for years its bore the traveler’s load.
One day this road will turn to gold.
Verse 2
There are some times, when the rocks hurt my feet.
My body burns from the sweat and the heat.
My strengths completely drained and my face marks the pain.
Oh that I could turn around, that road is still there,
but every mountain that I climbed I again would have to bear.
So I really can’t turn back, someone may be using my tracks.
I see one more bend and that just might be this road’s end.
And for some, this road’s already turn to gold.
And for me someday this road will turn to gold.
